Kybrook Community was established in 1972 with Jawoyn and Wagiman families, since then, many other clans have married into the community. Located just 100 km north of Katherine, Kybrook is a vibrant and close-knit community with a rich cultural heritage. This is a very family and culturally orientated community with many children and the elderly being cared for by extended family members within the community. Hunting and fishing, spending time cooking on the campfire and taking kids out on Country is very important to these families.

One of the greatest challenges faced by Kybrook residents is the lack of access to shops. Travelling to buy basic items is costly, with fuel prices adding an additional burden. Many families in the community live without proper bedding, using old tyres and milk crates for furniture and tin cans for cups. In these tough conditions, the Kybrook OpShop aims to provide access to essential goods and necessities that are otherwise hard to come by in this remote area.

 Kitchen – Pots, pans, plates, cups, cutlery (no glass, please).
Bed/Bath – Toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, soap), single and double sheets, blankets, pillows, towels.
Kids – Shoes, socks, T-shirts, fishing shirts, shorts, board shorts.
Sporting Goods – Footballs, basketballs, handballs.
Sewing Material – For skirts, shorts, and curtains.
Men’s Work Clothes – Polo shirts, Hi-vis cotton drill shirts, cargo pants, jeans, work boots, socks.
Women’s & Girls’ Clothes – Casual summer wear, long skirts, loose tops, longer shorts.

 Camping Gear – Camp chairs, sleeping bags.
